about the pol project

The Pol Project is the pilot of a proposed 3 year scheme which aims to combine the knowledge of UK and Indian craftspeople and researchers in order to engage with a communal urban space.

Artists Stephen Dixon (MIRIAD) and CJ O’Neill (MMU) together with visual anthropologist and filmmaker Amanda Ravetz (MIRIAD), are undertaking a four week long residency project at Arts Reverie in Dahl ni Pol, a Jain community in the heart of the old city of Ahmedabad, India, in October 2010.
Stephen and CJ are creating temporary site-specific public artworks, objects and events whilst Amanda is developing a study through film of Pol social aesthetics, with the aim of providing a critical framework to support this and subsequent artistic interventions.

The pol project was initiated at the Arts Reverie LAB (India) in April 2010 - our involvement so far is funded by MIRIAD at MMU (UK) and The British Council with support from Arts Reverie (India) and A Fine Line (UK).
